The Monument to the Street Sweeper may rightly be called our city's landmark. On the crossing of two central streets, he vigilantly guards the peace and cleanliness to the smiles and approval of passers-by. Our street sweeper is a bit old-fashined, he must have cleaned our streets in the early 20th century. It was back then when the profession of a street sweeper reached its peak. They did not only sweep streets, but also managed the order of things, were responsible for the households; they also worked under the authority of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and issued foreign passports to the residents. Althought the profession seems no longer as respectable, our citizens and tourists gladly take pictures with this nice fellow.
