Opposite the Tobolsk Kremlin, there is a monument to the well-known Siberian cartographer, artist and architect Semyon Remezov. It was that man who made a significant contribution to the development of the city.
Under the project of Semyon Ulyanovich, the Sophia-Uspensky Cathedral, the Bishop's House, Renterei (Treasury House), Gostiny Dvor and the complex of the former Governor's Palace, part of the ensemble of the Tobolsk Kremlin, were constructed.
In the history of Russia, Remezov, first of all, is remembered as a creator of unique atlases of Siberia – The Holographic Drawing Book, The Book of Siberia of 1701 and the Draft Book of Siberia, Compiled by The boyar Son Semyon Remezov in 1701.
