Why Empress Catherine II sent her royal throne to Siberia, you can find out by visiting the Viceroy Palace, located on the territory of the Tobolsk Kremlin. For many years the Siberian province, the borders of which stretched to the Pacific Ocean, was controlled from there. The Decembrists Muravyov, Annenkov, Svistunov and Semenov were sent to exile there.
Today, the Viceroy Palace is the central museum complex of the Kremlin. Visiting that place, you will not only see the Catherine's throne but also get acquainted with the history how to rule Siberia in the Russian Empire; you will be able to visit the reconstructed fragments of interiors from different centuries. On the first floor of the complex, you will find the Palace Gingerbread Bakery, where you can taste Siberian sweets made according to old recipes.
Bon appetit and have a good rest!
